Kalmar Ottawa has been part of the Ottawa, KS community since it first became a legal entity in 1943 as Ottawa Steel Products, Inc. making attachments for farm equipment.  Since these early days of Ottawa Steel Products the company has gone through many different products and name changes but is known for its current product, the terminal tractor and the name Ottawa Truck.

Kalmar Ottawa not only invented the product but is the global leader in the terminal tractor business, producing over 85,000 units, more than all of its competitors combined.  Kalmar Ottawa trucks are known for their superior quality and reliability, which is directly attributed to the employees in Ottawa, KS.

The Original Innovator

Since 1958, Kalmar Ottawa Terminal Tractors have set the standard in trailer moving solutions for warehouse and distribution operations, ports, and rail terminals in North America. Kalmar Ottawa’s are regarded for their excellent durability, operator comfort, ease of service and latest generation engines, featuring the cleanest in engine technology. Setting the Standard

Along with being the original manufacturer of terminal tractors, Kalmar Ottawa was the first to offer machines with an automatic transmission, a rear door entry, integral air conditioning units, power cab tilt and ABS brake systems. Kalmar Ottawa terminal tractors were also the first on the market to receive DOT/EPA certification – a paramount classification for distribution and industrial customers whose operation entails shunting trailers between yards via public streets and roadways.

70,000 Trucks and Counting

In February 2019 the Kalmar Ottawa factory eclipsed the 70,000 production milestone, which is more than twice the production volume of all North American terminal tractor competitors combined.
